Major Projects

  1. Donal constructed 9 steel supports weighing 5,000 pounds each for the Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy (CARMA) antennas. Many other machine shops were not able to take on this project due to it’s complexity and tight tolerances. Donal used their high performance Trumpf Trulaser laser cutter to get the high quality cutting edges required by the customer’s specs. For more info on CARMA:

  1. Donal assembled the geodesic sphere used in the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory. Nobel Prize-winning neutrino research was later carried out at the observatory. Donal Machine’s contribution to the project was formally recognized by the California State Senate and Assembly, California Governor Pete Wilson, and the City of Petaluma.
